Meet Karl

Why am I running for Oshkosh Common Council?

I have lived and worked in Oshkosh for 15 years. As a community member, employee and father, I realize many elements of our daily lives are influenced by local government decisions and policies. Our access to affordable and dignified housing, quality roads, accessible public transportation, and local parks are all influenced by local government. I believe all of our community members should have a voice in these decisions and I am running to advocate for city government that listens to all voices in our decision making. We need to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in Oshkosh and make decisions that protect all of our citizens.

Professional Experience

I have had a varied professional career that has focused on hospitality and creating environments in which everyone feels welcomed. Whether working as a bartender, an operations manager at a food pantry, or in my current role as operations director at a local warming shelter, I strive to create collaborative relationships and take action to address the needs of those I serve. If elected, I will bring this collaborative and action-oriented spirit to my role on Common Council.

In addition to my professional experience, I have served on the City of Oshkosh Bike and Pedestrian Advisory Council and am currently the vice-chair of the Transit Advisory Board. I have a degree from UW Oshkosh in Leadership and Organizational Development.

Personal Experience

I live in downtown Oshkosh with my family and we enjoy biking in our local parks, kayaking in Lake Winnebago and walking to visit the Oshkosh Farmers Market. My partner Jennifer teaches at UW Oshkosh and my children Abby, Isaac and Isiah attend Oshkosh Public Schools. You will regularly find us walking around town with our two rescue dogs, Wonder Woman and Gamora. If you see me out, please stop and say hi and let me know how I can represent your needs and concerns in my campaign.
